The vast financial system of Venezuela has shown rapid growth. That was between the 1950s and 1980s. It characterized the professional existence of its institutions. In 1989, the financial services sector consisted of 41 commercial banks. 23 government financing institutions, 29 financial firms, 16 mortgage banks, 20 loan associations. Also several bodies, like insurance companies, asset funds, pension funds, and international traders.
The financial services sector consisted of 20 banking and financial agencies. The oil revenues in the 1970s led the financial institutions to grow. But, several companies went bankrupt during the less successful 1980s. The financial system was affected.

The official authority of the nation is the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV). It also functions as the Clearing House system’s regulating agent. It  Founded in 1939. BCV supervises Venezuelan banks and manages the bolívar at fixed exchange rates.

  • In 1925, the company changed to Banco Neerlando Venezolano.

  • Banco Industrial de Venezuela established in 1937.
  • It has 60 percent state capital and 40 percent private capital.
  • It is also known as the Venezuelan Industrial Bank or BIV. Finally, the land returned to the state.
  • The bank played a crucial role in the nation’s policy of industrialization. 
  • In 2016, the financial institution Bank of the Treasury transferred its assets.

  • The Banco de Venezuela was established in 1883.
  • It is under the name Banco Comercial, an international universal bank.
  • In 1990, it took its current name.
  • It operated ten branches already in 1920 in Venezuela.
  • The central bank of the country was still not there.
  • Thus, the Bank of Venezuela was one of the banks which had the right to issue banknotes.

  • In 1951, Banfoandes or Los Andes Regional Development Bank founded.
  • Founded by the Corporation for Venezuelan Development (CVF).
  • It also managed 170 departments until 2009.
  • Then it merged by the state.
  • With other low-stratum financial bodies because of bankruptcy.

Banco Nacional de Crédito

Venezuelan commercial bank Banco Nacional de Crédito (BVC: BNC) or BNC was established in 1977 as Banco Tequendama branch of the Banco Tequendama Colombia. In 2003, it changed its name to Banco Nacional de Crédito. In 2009, it acquired Stanford Bank Venezuela, which was controlled by Stanford Financial Group.

Banco Venezolano de Crédito

Founded in 1925, general bank Venezolano de Crédito (BVC: BVE) is one of the largest banks in Venezuela. Headquartered in Caracas, the bank offers a range of banking products and services including deposits, checking and savings accounts, foreign currency transactions, custody of securities, and commercial and personal loans. In the 20th century, Venezolano de Crédito provided funding and developed key sectors of the economy.

BBVA Provincial

Formerly known as BBVA Banco Provincial, financial institution BBVA Provincial (BVC: BPV) was established in 1953 in Caracas. It was considered the first of universal banks in Venezuela to provide specialized banking solutions. The majority of BBVA Provincial was acquired by Banco Bilbao Vizcaya, currently known as Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, as part of its expansion into Latin America.

Based in Caracas, Bancaribe operates through 113 branches in the country, offering universal banking products and services to over 800,000 customers. Founded in 1954, the private bank is part of the medium stratum of the Bank Ranking of SUDEBAN. Its headquarters is in Caracas.
